Getting Our Best Answers:
From Input to Engagement to Empowerment
In the City for Good will be hosting a community-wide forum on Thursday, May 19, from 7-8:30 PM. The keynote speaker will be Patrick Seeb, Director of Economic Development and Placemaking Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency
A year ago, looking back on his work as executive director of the St. Paul Riverfront Corporation, Patrick Seeb observed,
“During those 20 years, public participation in city building has changed from input to engagement and now to power-sharing….. We know our strength comes from the people who are here. We are a community of diverse backgrounds and diverse needs. We have learned that the more we serve the needs of people, the more economic success will follow.”
Attendees will hear more of his lessons learned and how these lessons inform his new work in Rochester. Work he frames in his belief that we are better prepared to find our “best answers” when we include diverse communities in facing the challenging questions of economic development and growth.
After the presentation, there will be a short Q&A, followed by updates from the In the City for Good Action Groups on:
- Housing
- Transportation
- Sustainability
- Living Wage
- Education
- Social Services
- Historic Preservation
Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
